FAMILIARS API

The API requires Modloader and at least one FamPack!

Downloads:

API 1.2.5d
previous versions

DefaultMobs FamPack 1.2.5c

Extended Fampack 1.2.5c
(requires Audiomod)

more:
Herobrine, Notch & Chuck Norris

Elemental Dragons

MLP:FiM Pack

If you want to create your own Familiar, take a look: http://www.minecraft.../#entry14723174

The Familiar mod includes a little familiar for the player, so it's not always so lonely in SSP.

A Familiar is a kind of protector / companion that always follows the player.
They are not tameable like dogs and do not occur in the wild. These can be equipped like items / armor, Dungeon Defenders has inspired me.

The creatures do not only fly someone behind they also have a passive/active skill (attack by mobs, heal the player etc).

Some are not available from the beginning, you need to unlock them first (buy with XP or unlock achievements).

This mod is an API too (tut comes soon), so anyone might make a complete MLP Familiar Pack or Pokemon or something ^^

To equip them you have to use the FamGuide, you'll find there further info and how to unlock them.

To craft it, you'll need a book, gunpowder, spidereye, bones and rotten flesh.

Tips and tricks:

1. Download the latest Java 7 builds from here: http://download.java.net/jdk7/. Minecraft should run much smoother with less lag spikes. It really helps.
2. Set the Java process to higher priority
3. Set "Limit framerate" to Max FPS. The limiter is so implemented that it always decreases the FPS.
4. Update LWJGL from here.
5. Lauch Minecraft with less memory (yes, really). It needs maximum 256 MB and runs fine on all settings with the default texture pack. By default java allocates too much memory (1GB?) which may get swapped to disk and the overall performance may suffer a lot. To start Minecraft with less memory:
  • Download and start the Magic Launcher.
  • Click Setup
  • Enter 256 in the field "Memory"
  • Click OK
  • Login and play

SONIC ETHER'S UNBELIEVABLE SHADERS (GLSL SHADERS, DYNAMIC SHADOWS, MORE!)

Sonic Ether's Unbelievable Shaders v1.2.5 v09 [compatible with Minecraft 1.2.5]

Updated (v09): June 29, 2012

Please read this entire post before attempting an install or posting about a bug. IF YOU ARE HAVING ISSUES, please post your system specs, and please don't post until you've read all of this thread and all about daxnitro's mod that this mod is based on on his wiki here, and in the original mod's thread here. If you have issues with getting this mod to work, make sure you have read this entire post and performed the installation directions correctly. Then refer to the thread of the mod that this mod is based on that I posted a link to above. Also make sure to read daxnitro's wiki. Only post questions if you've done all of these things, please.

This mod is a "mod of a mod" (original mod here created by daxnitro: GLSL Shaders) that makes your Minecraft look simply unbelievably good! Take a gander!

Here's a taste of what's coming in v10 (besides nVidia compatibility!)

Posted Image Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted ImagePosted ImageChangelog

v08:
-Fixed more weather effects
-Attempt to diminish "omg torches don't work" effect
-Organized shaders downloads and included screenshot and readme files v07:
-Created high quality light propagation shadows for Ultra configuration
-Adjusted weather colors
-Added vignette filter

v06:
-Fixed weather effects
-Accomplished something or other, I'm sure.

Known Issues

This mod is somewhat incomplete and still has a few visual artifacts. These include; flickering shadows, sun shining through into caves, abrupt day/night transitions, and crazy FOV changes at sundown (lasts for a few seconds). Also, blocks that you are currently destroying turn quite dark in some texture packs. All of these issues are being worked on.

About

This mod adds shaders to Minecraft in a post-process manner that simulate different effects that occur in the real-world in how light reacts with objects and with the human eye. This mod also adds dynamic movement to flora and fire. Note: This mod was configured with a high-spec system in mind. If you run vanilla Minecraft with max view distance and fancy settings at around 100+ fps and most modern games at med-high to high settings, then this mod should run fine for you. Read further down in the Tweaks section for how to get better performance out of this mod.

Downloads

Please, do not include this mod in any modpacks. I don't want my mod scattered about the internet. For now I want this thread to remain the only official place where people can download the official and latest versions. Thank you.

Installation Instructions (PLEASE READ!)

This mod requires OptiFine. Smooth version yields me the best fps.

1. Download and install OptiFine manually (preferably on a clean Minecraft.jar, if you've got a modded one already you can give it a shot but no guarantees this mod will work with an already modded Minecraft).

2. Go to the Downloads section and download the Core files for your version of Minecraft. Legacy versions will be added soon.

-Extract the contents inside the archive into any folder (like on your Desktop). Don't forget to extract all files before attempting an install. Many people have been running the installer from within the archive without extracting everything first.

-Open the folder, and run "INSTALLER.exe" (or nitrous.jar if you're not on Windows).

-Click "Install Mods", wait for the mod to finish patching Minecraft.jar. Make sure minecraft.jar is NOT open in any other program (WinRAR) when you click Install. (To anyone with the "javassist.NotFoundException: a(..) is not found in adt" error, just right-click on the "1.0.0 line" in the Installer and disable it.)

-IMPORTANT FOR ATI RADEON USERS: Download and install the latest Catalyst beta drivers. This fixes texture transparency issues.

-Go back to the Downloads section and download the shader configs right for you. I recommend downloading and testing them all to get the best experience for your system! Some people have reported higher FPS when using Ultra shaders than when using Lite or Default. No idea why, try it for yourself!

-The shader config files that you have downloaded will contain .fsh and .vsh files. Open minecraft.jar with WinRAR and navigate into the Shaders folder inside minecraft.jar. You should see the same set of .fsh and .vsh files here. Copy the files from the shader configuration files that you downloaded into this folder (minecraft.jar/shaders) and overwrite the files there.

-If at any time you need to make changes to these files, you can open these files with any text editor, make your changes, and then save the file. WinRAR should prompt you that the file has changed and will ask you if you would like to update the file in the archive, at which point you would allow this so that your changes to the file are applied.

-Launch Minecraft and enjoy unbelievable shaders! But keep reading for tweaks that will help your experience!

3. Go to "Options..." and make sure that your FOV is set to Normal (all the way to the left). For better performance, turn graphics to Fast, and then re-enable specific features that you want to be Fancy in the Details section (like trees and grass edges). For some more performance tweaks (thanks to the great community!!) see here and here. Also, a very important tip is to adjust your screen resolution so that minecraft runs at a lower resolution. This will improve your performance a lot.

Troubleshooting

If you're on a Mac, this video might help! http://www.youtube.c..._source=message

If you are encountering issues with this mod, there are a number of things that you can do to ensure that things are running smoothly for you.

Firstly, I know it's a pain, but update your graphics drivers. I don't think I need to explain why this is a good idea Posted Image Some people have reported that if they run the installer twice, the mod begins to work, where when they had only run it once it didn't work. Also, if you're running Windows 7 or Vista make SURE you run with INSTALLER.exe and that you confirm administrative privileges to the installer (or better yet, go to the Control Panel and disable UAC entirely). A list of compatible mods is available on daxnitro's wiki linked to at the top of this post. Check there if you want to use other mods with this mod. If these things fail, go to daxnitro's GLSL Shaders thread (also linked above) and install his version and see if it gives you the same issues (should be the same installation process). If the mod installs correctly and you see some shaders, you can then directly overwrite daxnitro's shaders with my settings/shaders by delving into the .zip for my mod. Sonic Ether's Unbelievable Shaders.zip\mods\shaders\contents\files\shaders. Everything should be in there in .fsh and .vsh files. Drop these into Minecraft.jar\Shaders and overwrite the shaders that are there. Make sure that you don't have any Anti-Aliasing or Anisotropic Filtering, or anything like that, forced in your driver settings. If all else fails and you've drank this post up dry, head over to daxnitro's thread and check his first post.

Commonly Encountered Problems:

Dark shadow lines through terrain

Updated graphics drivers will probably fix this. If not, your gpu is probably too old to compute some of the commands that are in these shaders.

Only DOF shader visible

Overwrite the shaders in minecraft.jar/Shaders with the ones provided in the .zip located in ... .zip/mods/shaders/contents/files/shaders/ This should put my shaders into your minecraft.jar (something the installer for some reason may have failed to do).

Void of blue (all blue screen) This seems to happen on all Intel gpu's. Unless Intel comes out with new drivers, this is unsolvable.

No dynamic shadows Open composite.fsh in minecraft.jar/Shaders and reduce shadowresolution by editing /*SHADOWRES: ... */ to 2048 or 1024. Some systems/video cards don't have enough memory to draw high resolution shadows. Also, make sure you installed OptiFine before installing this mod.
